Restoring Dignity & Control After An Injury

Construction employees at great risk for workplace accidents

On Behalf of | Jan 7, 2020 | Workplace Accidents |

In Illinois and throughout the country, construction workers have a high risk of personal injuries on the job. Workplace accidents occur often in the industry. Sadly, a Monday morning accident in another state proved fatal. An investigation of the tragic incident remains active at this time; however, a few key details were immediately clear.

There are numerous reasons why construction work is so dangerous, including the fact that employees often move about in the vicinity of heavy machinery. Accidents involving massive construction vehicles or machines often cause severe, even life-threatening injuries. The 55-year-old worker involved in the incident was working near a crane that was lifting and transporting rebar, a steel rod that is used to reinforce concrete. Somehow, the rebar struck the man, resulting in an emergency situation.

Police were dispatched to the accident scene at approximately 7:30 a.m. The worker was transported to a nearby hospital but did not survive. Another fatal workplace accident was also reported in a different state on Christmas Eve. The worker in that particular incident was found pinned underneath a vehicle and police investigating the tragedy requested that anyone with information regarding the accident contact them.

There are often more questions than answers following fatal workplace accidents in Illinois and elsewhere. Especially if no one witnessed a particular incident, it take can weeks, even months, for investigators to determine what may have caused a worker’s death. An immediate family member of a deceased worker may want to seek consultation with an experienced attorney before requesting benefits or filing claims for financial relief.
