An Illinois family is grieving this week after a tragedy that resulted in fatality for two of its members. Motor vehicle accidents occur often in this state, especially during the holidays when there are more cars on the road and people are in a great hurry. Investigators are still working to determine the exact cause of the recent collision that involved multiple vehicles and sent several people to the hospital with serious injuries in addition to claiming two lives.
A woman, age 64, was behind the wheel of one of the vehicles in the crash. She was reportedly traveling in a northbound direction at the time. At some point, another vehicle tried to merge in the same direction, and a massive collision occurred. The woman’s car rolled over and slid into an opposing lane.
Another car struck the woman’s vehicle as it slid on its rooftop. A 57-year-old man who was driving the car, as well as a 15-year-old passenger, were both transported to a nearby hospital in critical conditions. The 41-year-old man who was driving the vehicle that attempted to merge suffered non-life threatening injuries in the collision. Sadly, the 64-year-old woman and a 1-year-old child who was traveling with her both died.
Motor vehicle accidents in Illinois and elsewhere often result in many unanswered questions. Investigators may take days or weeks to form conclusions as to who or what may have caused a particular collision.
