Postal employee in another state suffered workplace injuries

Many Illinois postal workers will agree that this government job can sometimes be quite stressful. For some workers, such as those who drive postal vehicles during the normal course of duty, the risk for workplace injuries is high, especially in high-traffic areas or when a nearby driver is reckless or negligent. Police in another state are currently investigating a collision that recently occurred that sent a postal worker on an air flight to a hospital.

The worker's daughter later spoke to reporters, saying her mother suffered broken bones and a concussion. She also said the outlook for her condition is good and she is now recovering in the hospital. Investigators say they are concerned that the driver of the vehicle who hit the postal worker's car may have been acting under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Preliminary investigations show that the driver, who was behind the wheel of a pickup truck at the time, failed to stop at a stop sign moments before crashing into the postal vehicle.

The pickup wound up in a nearby canal, and the driver reportedly received basic medical attention at the scene but refused transport to the hospital for further treatment. The postal worker was airlifted to a nearby medical facility. Another individual also suffered injuries in the collision. Both vehicles had to be towed from the scene.

When Illinois workplace injuries occur, the insurance employers purchase comes into play when the person injured files a workers' compensation claim. This process provides benefits to injured workers to help cover medical expenses or replace lost wages from work when time off is needed during recovery. The process can be stressful, which is why it is always a good idea to rely on experienced guidance and support from a workers' compensation law attorney.
